Evolve pushed back to September 2021

Meetings & Events Australia (MEA) have announced that the MEA Board and Evolve Committee have made the decision to move Evolve 2021 to Wednesday 8 September 2021.

This decision comes after close monitoring of the lockdown situation in Melbourne and the likelihood of MEA members being permitted, or able to travel to Melbourne for the event at this time. The conference will proceed with a live event Melbourne on the new date, as a sign of MEA’s continued support of in- person events and the city of Melbourne.

Nigel Collin, MEA chairperson commented, “The health and wellbeing of MEA members and the wider community is at the forefront of our decision and member’s safety is our main priority. It’s important to support live events and we want more delegates to travel to Melbourne to support the state, its venues and our sponsors, which is why we will still host Evolve 2021 in Melbourne in September.” “It’s a great opportunity for the industry come together and focus on best practice and rebuild confidence”, he added.

Melbourne convention bureau chief executive Julia Swanson says, “There is no denying the current circuit breaker has been disruptive, but we know the Business Events sector is incredibly resilient and ready to return to in-person events when the time is right. We welcome MEA’s continued support and leadership in championing in-person events and driving recovery of our industry. The Evolve 2021 live hub in Melbourne will lead this action and drive confidence in hosting and attending events which is right at the heart of this year’s conference theme Building Confidence through Best Practice.”

The conference go ahead with the main hub in Melbourne at Sofitel Melbourne on Collins (live in- person event), with Satellite Hubs in Sydney at Sydney Sofitel Darling Harbour, and in Brisbane at Sofitel Brisbane Central. There will also be the option to attend virtually for those who are unable to join any of the locations. Evolve will kick off with an in-person networking event on Tuesday 7 September at Sofitel Melbourne on Collins.

The combined state & national MEA Awards Ceremony will be held on Wednesday 8 September in Melbourne, and all finalists and members of the MEA community are invited to come together to recognise the innovation and resilience of the events industry.
