More than a hippo or two

Werribee Open Range Zoo - just outside Melbourne, on the way to Geelong,  has been around a long time, which may make you think it is a bit passé, but that would be a mistake as the facility has after-hours activities that make it a real contender for groups and incentives.

The Sunset Safari help Zoos Victoria support international conservation partners such a Rhino Fund Uganda. After general closing hours, the tour takes participants out onto the savannah for a sunset tour at a time when most of the animals are more active than during the hotter hours. The programme includes a dinner alongside the meerkats with a North African-inspired menu as well as a drums, song and dance performance highlighting the sounds of Africa.

Corporate bookings are now available for the 2019/20 season of Sunset Safari. Corporate bookings can be made either during the Saturday and Sunday events open to the general public, or as a private booking on any other night.

Slumber Safaris are the zoo's answer to glamping. They included a day of animal encounters, drinks and nibbles at sunset followed by a dinner feast, a night walk, and marshmallows around the campfire. Participants finish the evening with scones, before retiring to a luxury lodge, which can sleep up to five people. The Slumber Safari includes an

African-inspired dinner and buffet breakfast, fully hosted safari experience, animal encounter and exclusive animal viewing opportunities, and selected on-site discounts.

A range of corporate training workshops, team building experiences and animal encounters is also available.

Werribee Open Range Zoo is a 30-minute drive from Melbourne's CBD and on the way to Geelong.
