Following a multi-million-dollar redevelopment, InterContinental Hayman Island Resort (pictured above) will opens its doors on 1 July on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia’s Whitsundays.

Previously popular with New Zealand conference and incentive groups, the 166-room luxury resort is available for exclusive hire. Hayman Island is one of the 74 islands that make up the Whitsundays and one of only four that offer resort accommodation.

The Beach Wing has 16 new retreat rooms, each with an outdoor shower and private courtyard. An additional 11 suites have been added to the Pool Wing.

The resort offers a range of new experiences for groups, including a stand up paddleboard tour of Hayman Island’s hidden coves, a team challenge to test guests mentally and physically with land and in-water activities, and a seaplane flight over popular reefs before landing in Hardy Lagoon to snorkel.

The 400 hectare/988-acre private island has easy access to Heart Reef and one of the best beaches in the world, Whitehaven Beach.

Access to Hayman Island is via a 60-minute luxury boat transfer or a 15-minute seaplane or helicopter flight from Hamilton Island. Hamilton Island Airport has direct services from Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne

The Hayman Spa has been completely refurbished and features 13 treatment rooms and a range of wellness experiences such as clean-eating meal plans, sunrise yoga and meditation classes – all of which can be incorporated into events.

A bevy of restaurants and bars have been added to the resort’s portfolio, including the Pacific, which features an outdoor terrace with ocean views. The restaurant, available for exclusive hire, has a modern Australian menu and can accommodate up to 220 guests seated inside and 40 on the terrace.

Key event spaces range from beaches and garden settings to superyachts and restaurants. The largest indoor space is the Langford Room that features high ceilings and views of Hayman Island Beach. The Langford Room can accommodate up to 330 guests seated as well as standing for a cocktail event.

Three of the outdoor spaces can accommodate 330 guests seated as well as standing for a cocktail event: Coconut Grove, Lion’s Court and Hayman Island Beach.  Or, Langford Island is located 800 metres across from Hayman Island and can accommodate 50 guests seated or 120 for cocktail events.
