Working with NZFW’s idea of sustainability, Grand Millennium Auckland will be bringing to Auckland the ‘Secret Garden’. An intimate space to relax, unwind and discuss favourite outfits after a show. Being an important part of sustainability and the ecosystem, bees are behind the works of fruit, veges and, of course, honey which is the main ingredient in the Fashion Week Cocktail “Straight To Buzz-ness”. Featuring gin, 5-spice and thyme syrup, juniper berries, lemon juice and Grand Millennium’s own honey. Visit our ‘Secret Garden’ during Fashion Week and you’ll be able to take part of it home and grow you own little garden to help promote the bee population.
Sustainability is a centre feature for this year’s Fashion Week, which is also a core business focus for Millennium Hotels and Resorts New Zealand; to balance society, economy and the environment within our hotel operations. Our hotels across the countryemploy multiple sustainability tactics to reduce, reuse and recycle and reduce our impact on the environment.
Millennium Hotel Rotorua re-planted 80% of the hotel garden with native plants that require no watering during summer and are putting pressure on suppliers to reduce packaging and use of single use plastics, and M Social Auckland uses Fairtrade hair & body products for guest amenities that are packaged in a bottle made from 100% recycled Anchor Light ProofTM milk bottles.
Grand Millennium Auckland’s pillow supplier Vendella helps them save the environment by making pillows out of recycled plastic bottles. Each pillow uses 22 plastic bottles, and over the past 12 months Grand Millennium Auckland has saved 8,800 plastic bottles from landfills and oceans. And for every 8 pillows purchased, Vendella plants a native tree on Grand Millennium Auckland’s behalf to keep New Zealand beautiful. Over the past 12 months Grand Millennium Auckland has assisted with the planting of 50 native trees.
Grand Millennium Auckland will also host this year’s model casting, an exciting day of transforming the hotel atrium into a runway for the fresh new faces and top models of the New Zealand fashion industry. Alison Smith, Director of Conference and Incentives of Millennium and Copthorne Hotels New Zealand, commented: “We are honoured and thrilled to host this year’s casting call for New Zealand Fashion Week. It’s exciting to get a preview of the calibre of young talent in New Zealand and see our hotel atrium transform into a catwalk for the day.”
Across the country at selected Millennium, Copthorne and Kingsgate hotels, honey-based cocktails will be available for the duration of fashion week as part of the wider celebration of bees, sustainability and New Zealand Fashion Week 2019.
