Pure Pursuit a pure success

Pure Pursuit a pure success

Twenty leading luxury and experiential travel and events professionals from around the world have just completed a six day pure pursuit journey in New Zealand.

The group came from 17 different countries, and for many, it was their first visit to New Zealand.

New Zealand in-bound company 34°South designed and delivered the experience, which was designed to build networks and move the travel industry forward. 34°South is part of OneNineFive, a specialist event management company.

This was the first time a Pure Pursuit had been held in the southern hemisphere, with previous destinations including Iceland, Costa Rica, Italy, USA and Norway.

OneNineFive company director Greg Norris explains the aim was to provide visitors with a thought-provoking journey and a deep and authentic insight into New Zealand's country, culture, people and place.

'We also wanted to demonstrate the capability and style of 34°South, to further our reach into this amazing network of travel professionals and to see our in-bound business grow in the months and years to come.'

Sissinio Alvarado, co-founder of Origin Extraordinary Escapes in Costa Rica was completely taken with the experience.

'It was a remarkable journey through incredible landscapes, and delivered with creativity and passion.'

The scene was set with an opening night dinner in a private house overlooking the sunset on the Remarkables mountain range.

'Rather than take them yet another great restaurant, it felt far more ‘us’ to have them around to a house for dinner,' says 34°South director Carlene Staines.

'Shoes off, home cooked food and the generous sharing of wine and conversations.'

Maria Alzamora travelled from Ecuador and commented 'Thank you for hosting us at your home in Queenstown…food was delicious and your company was priceless. Such a special way to begin our journey.'

The following morning, the group was off in a seven hour hiking journey into the back country of Ben Lomond Station.

The days that followed involved helicopters, rafting, biking, walking, jetboats and boats – with regular facilitated workshops and in-depth discussions. Accommodation was a mix of camping under the stars and two nights at Millbrook Resort.

'I fell in love with New Zealand and your team and I would like to organise a trip to send my clients there,' wrote Alejandra Burro from Paraguay after the experience.
