Meeting Newz November / December 2022

We’re here to help SUSTA I NAB I L I TY] to 12 months and converted into a rich soil conditioner to go back on the land’. Watkins says MyNoke has new farms coming soon to Mercer and Hawke’s Bay, adding to three active sites in Tokoroa, Taupo and Ohakune. Every vermicomposting site is environmentally managed as an entirely natural cold process, with no synthetics or chemicals in use. To date, MyNoke has diverted over 1.2 million tonnes of waste from landfill and the addition of multiple new farms throughout the country will help steer the initiative to reach its goal of 1.2 million tonnes diverted per year. Their mahi was just recognised this month by winning the Waikato Business Awards Sustainability Award along with the Air New Zealand People’s Choice Award. Organic waste materials from local councils, industry and others are carefully managed and mixed together to create the optimum diet for a range of earthworm species. The waste is reduced by close to 80% as the earthworms process it and a rich, valuable soil conditioner – ‘vermicast’ is the result. This is then sold to agriculturalists, horticulturalists and gardeners to improve soil productivity. MyNoke also promotes education around soil science and environmental waste impact by speaking at conferences and public events, while also offering vermicast pottles as delegate favours equating to the volume of organic waste per individual attending the event. People can also benefit from its fundraising programme and join its public worm farm tours. Any business in Hamilton city can now jump onboard to secure Worm Food Bins and establishments in other areas can register their interest in the service as new regional services come online in the new year. www.mynoke.co.nz/worm-food-bins The team at MyNoke with their Waikato Chamber of Commerce Business Award for Sustainability meeting newz [nov dec] 2022 [33]
