ZERO WASTE – NPEV As a council department, New Plymouth Event Venues (NPEV) has, and continues to take, progressive measures to reduce waste at its venues and events, in alignment with the New Plymouth District Council goal to achieve zero waste from council operations by 2026. The key strategies adopted include to firstly rethink and reduce the waste items brought in; to select reusable, recyclable, compostable items forming a plan to manage and successfully separate those streams once in the venue; and organise to remove the waste responsibly, noting volumes for reporting and goal-setting. Over the last year NPEV and event organisers have achieved an 87% diversion rate across all events, with 11 tonnes of waste being recycled or composted.
