ŌTAUTAHI CHRISTCHURCH Game, Set and Match With the opening of Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre later this year, and venues and hotels already in place, Ōtautahi Christchurch is set to be at the forefront of business events in New Zealand. L oren Heaphy, general manager destination and attraction at ChristchurchNZ s ays the city is an epic conference destination. “We are a modern urban centre capable of hosting large-scale events, while giving delegates a boutique city experience with easy access to spectacular natural landscapes. “New hotels and venues sit alongside a buzzing riverside precinct with restaurants and rooftop bars, boutique shopping, and attractions in our compact and beautiful central city,” she says. As well as Te Pae Christchurch, other new venue projects include Parakiore Recreation and Sports Centre to be completed in late 2022, and a new multi-use stadium to seat 30,000. Parakiore will be the largest aquatic and indoor recreation and leisure venue of its kind in New Zealand, at over 30,000sqm. Christchurch and Canterbury will have a strong presence at MEETINGS in early June, including hosting a two-day pre-familiarisation tour for hosted buyers from Australia. Loren Heaphy will be presenting a destination update at the show, and previewing MEETINGS coming to Christchurch in 2022. “We are excited to be welcoming Australian buyers back to Christchurch this month, and we can’t wait to show them this vibrant city first-hand, when they arrive before MEETINGS,” she says. ChristchurchNZ i s also sponsoring the main coffee lounge at the MEETINGS 2021, which will have bold new city and regional branding. “As we gear up to host MEETINGS in Christchurch next year, we have a lot to share with guests on the show floor this year.
