It’s time we start being role models for our young people by spreading this passion and changing the negative narrative. Our wonderful editor Aleisha Moore is moving on at the end of the month to continue her passion of travelling. This has been Aleisha’s second stint as editor of Meeting Newz, firstly under ProMag Publishing and now with Tourism Media Group. The entire team will miss Aleisha, her dry wit and caring personality and we wish her all the success and happiness in the world. A recently launched campaign ‘Go with Tourism’ is helping the tourism industry fill the growing skills shortages through attracting young people into the sector. ATEED has been spearheading this project which helps young people get excited about a career in tourism and hospitality and connecting them with potential employers, and is supported with a campaign to dispel some of the negative perceptions people have about the tourism industry. These campaigns are an excellent way for us all to talk up tourism, highlight opportunities and inspire more people to pursue a career in our industry. With such a booming visitor economy we face a serious skills shortage, and addressing these issues now is paramount to the industry’s success. Business events can be tough. But it’s a highly rewarding industry that can impact not only individuals and their careers but whole societies, by bringing people together and creating communities for social and economic development.
