Meeting Newz July / August 2021

Lisa Hopkins, chief executive of Business Events Industry Aotearoa (which owns and organises the event) says there was no doubt that most buyers walked through the door with a purpose. “People are busy and they had a clear sense of what they wanted to achieve. In saying that, we have also had feedback about how good it was to have everyone together in the one space. It was an opportunity to meet new people as well as familiar faces and expand conversations. “The overwhelming feedback we are getting is that a huge number of bookings were generated but there have also been a lot of quotes.” The event, held on 2 and 3 June at the ASB Showgrounds in Auckland, attracted 300 day buyers, 100 hosted buyers from New Zealand and 40 from Australia (depleted from an original 60 mainly by the Victoria lock down at the time – though those intending buyers did follow up with digital meetings post-MEETINGS). There were 150 exhibitors, 10 media and a number of government and industry guests from organisations such as MBIE, Tourism Export Council of NZ, Tourism Industry Aotearoa, NZ Cruise Association and more. However, getting social and connecting again with customers, colleagues and friends was also hugely meaningful in the current environment, report participants.
