Portside Hotel joins Heritage Boutique Collection

Portside Hotel, Gisborne

The Heritage Boutique Collection (HBC) welcomes the Portside Hotel to its exclusive collection. The Portside Hotel is close to popular Gisborne wineries, exciting aquatic experiences from game fishing to stingray feeding and is the gateway to the spectacular East Cape experience.

The hotel is set on Reads Quay in the town’s marina complex. This 4.5 star hotel has a range of fully self contained suites available in studio, one and two bedroom configurations.

Regarded as a leading local accommodation provider, the property is modern, spacious and impressive with large windows and high ceilings embracing the spectacular harbour views.

The hotel has a swimming pool, and meeting facilities with views over the harbour and bay cater for 35 people theatre style and 45 for a cocktail reception.

The property is an important link in HBC's comprehensive North Island touring route.

The Hermitage Hotel cooks to success

The Hermitage Hotel at Aoraki Mt Cook is celebrating culinary success with its award-winning chefs taking out first and third place at the Southern Light Salon Culinaire competition on Saturday May 11 2013.

Chef Bambery, who competed last year and won three individual events, this year led the team to victory, winning silver medals in class 12 beef, class 4 ‘hot main presented cold’ and class 11 ‘mystery box’ notching up a total score of 248 points.

His award-winning dishes were pistachio-crusted lamb rack, with lamb cheek and bean terrine, beef sirloin with butternut puree, and broad bean and potato ragout, and pan-seared sole with scallop and prawn roularde, saffron potato and glazed yams.

Chef Walker’s dishes also wowed the judges, receiving bronze medals in Class 12 Beef, Class 4 ‘hot main presented cold’ and Class 11 ‘seafood mystery box’ giving him a total of 228 points and third place.

The annual Salon Culinaire competition is for students or chefs already working in the industry and this year attracted around 160 competitors.

Qualmark 4 star for Hotel GC Auckland City

Hotel Grand Chancellor Auckland City has achieved four star Qualmark accreditation. Overlooking Viaduct Harbour, the hotel has views over Waitemata Harbour and Auckland's CBD. Hotel Grand Chancellor Auckland City has a range of studio rooms, one bedroom suites with kitchenettes and one and two bedroom apartments with full kitchen and laundry facilities.

Leisure facilities include a 20 metre lap pool, spa and leisure pool, gymnasium and sauna, and secure underground parking. Boutique conference faciliites are complemented by No.1 Hobson Restaurant and Bar which is open daily for breakfast and dinner.

Rendezvous returns to Christchurch

SKYCITY Hamilton green light

After 10 years of providing entertainment, dining options and conference facilities in Hamilton’s CBD, SKYCITY Hamilton has received development approval to build a $35 million, 135 room hotel on top of the existing site beside the Waikato River.

Due for completion early 2015, the majority of the spacious 32m2 rooms will have river views, and there will be 11 suites and one presidential suite available. Each room will feature a large safe, big enough for laptops and iPads, automatic light sensors close to the floor, and a swivel, wall mounted flat screen TV.

The accommodation will complement SKYCITY’s six function and meeting rooms, that range from the 12 seater Hamilton Room, the 100 theatre style Rebo function room through to the four Waikato Rooms with a total capacity of 300 banquet.

Free wifi and new restaurants at SKYCITY

SKYCITY Grand Hotel and SKYCITY Hotel is taking the leading step and offering customers free wifi with no data cap or time limit. There will also be no restriction  on the number of devices that can access wifi in each room.

SKYCITY's general manager, Callum Mallett says 'providing free wifi to our hotel guests is a major milestone for both SKYCITY and the NZ hotel industry.
We want to ensure our guests have the best service possible whist staying at our hotels and we believe this offering puts SKYCITY hotels at the forefront of the hotel industry in New Zealand.'

SKYCITY Hotel's new deluxe room type has new designer bathrooms, with features such as European tapware and walk-in showers with rain-shower shower heads. All premium rooms will be upgraded over the coming year to the deluxe room.

Meantime, SKYCITY's seafood restaurant Observatory will be replaced by a new Peter Gordon restaurant and bar concept on level 52, called The Sugar Club. New additions planned for Federal Street include Al Brown's all-day American deli-style dining Federal Delicatessan, and Masu, a Japanese Robata signature restaurant and bar opening soon by Nic Watt.

Refurb in Wellington

Kingsgate Hotel Wellington has revamped its conference centre following the refurbishment of all 108 rooms in November. ‘We updated the look of the centre with a new paint job, new carpet, new chairs, new menu,’ says general manager Jeff Hermes. ‘The rooms are now named after Thorndon (district) streets with 150 year old images of those streets on the doors to the rooms giving the space a modern feel that pays homage to the rich history of the area.’
