Executive chef Jinu Abraham says the high tea is a modern interpretation on what was served on the same premises (when it was a Cookes Ltd establishment) from 1928 through to the late 1930s.
‘It was an ice cream parlour, grill and tea room so it is a perfect fit and new offering in Auckland.’
Hotel Grand Windsor is owned and operated by CPG Hotels and is an M Gallery by Accor property.
Lisa Breckon, director of sales and marketing at Hotel Grand Windsor, says the high tea option fits well with the luxury product offered by the hotel.
The product was launched yesterday to a gathering of influencers and bloggers (try explaining that to Cooke’s management in 1930) yesterday. The fare on offer includes arancini and aioli, buttermilk scones with clotted cream and strawberry and rose preserve (served warm), black forest verrine, and geranium truffle pops.
Hotel Grand Windsor has also announced it will be adding a downstairs meeting room and a spa next year. The high tea in Cooke’s Restaurant & Bar can be adapted for groups.
