Four Colour Process High Resolution PDF Specifications
Promag Publishing use a Mac system and our preferred format is Adobe PDF 1.4 files.
We will also accept files in the following programmes, CS InDesign, Photoshop 8, Illustrator 11 and Freehand 11 (all text MUST BE converted to paths if supplying Illustrator or Freehand files).
System and PPD
Your system must be configured with the Adobe Printer Description (Adobe PPD).
Creating files
Print to a Postscript File, then Produce your PDF using Acrobat Distiller (comes with full version of Adobe Acrobat). DO NOT create your PDF directly from the application. (eg. not a PDF exported from Illustrator, PDF library from Indesign, etc.).
Bleed
Bleed should be 5mm.
Registration Marks
Offset all registration marks by at least 6mm, so they don’t show in the bleed. DO NOT use colour bars or page information marks.
Double page spreads
Please supply the PDF as two single pages. NOT AS A SPREAD. The pages need to be split for imposing.
Images
All images are to be saved CMYK and high resolution (300 dpi at 100%). RGB images will not be accepted. DO NOT save photoshop files with any embedded profiles. If supplying a complete file created in Adobe Photoshop ensure all typed text has been rendered. We will accept CMYK Tiff’s, jpeg’s only. Please do not compress your file if supplying a Tiff (no LZW compression for example). If supplying a jpeg please ensure the quality is set to 12 when saving the file.
Colours
All colours, including those used in EPS files, must be converted to four colour CMYK process. DO NOT attach colour profiles to any images or graphics.
Fonts
Only use type 1 fonts. For pdf’s all fonts to be embedded. For EPS files please ensure all fonts are outlined. DO NOT use new format of Composite (multiple) fonts (CID fonts).
Distiller settings
Acrobat 5 (PDF version 1.4), Acrobat Distiller 6 or above users should make PDF 1.4 compatible PDFs.
General
Publisher or Word documents will not be accepted.
