Pacific Blue quits NZ domestic |
|
Pacific Blue is to cease flying New Zealand domestic routes but will increase its trans-Tasman and medium haul routes. Anyone holding forward bookings on New Zealand domestic routes from October 18 onward and will be provided with re-accommodation and refund options. The Virgin Blue Group of Airlines (VBA) chief executive officer John Borghetti says the airline is adding capacity to routes with string revenue potential and 'removing capacity from services which are underperforming'. He says Pacific Blue will expand as an international medium haul airline, with operations across the Tasman, the Pacific Islands and South East Asia, adding that growing the trans-Tasman routes is a positive step that will see an increase in New Zealand based staff. |

What a great evening business partners and industry kind had singing along to the musical Grease at the The Civic Theatre, Auckland 11 August. Hosts for the event, Hayley Stevens and Janelle Brooking from the Christchurch Convention Centre - Vbase, set the tone for the evening with generous nibbles and drinks at Vivace, High Street, then the group enjoyed VIP treatment at The Civic with front row circle seats complete with cocktails pre show and at intermission.

Tuning up at the Civic is Jeanette Stanton, CINZ and Tania Adolphe, Tourism Marketing Solutions. | Cheers from Hayley Stevens and Janelle Brooking Christchurch Convention Centre - Vbase and Fiona Alderton, Harvey Norman. | |

The Pacific Trade Conference & Expo scheduled for September 21 and 22 this year has now been deferred until March 14 and 15. A number of factors have caused this change of plan - but the main reason is so that the optimum number of Pacific Island governments and private sector operators can attend. Their attendance is essential to provide value to both NZ companies, as well as Pacific Island businesses (and their governments). The organisers say that with the Shanghai World Fair happening throughout most of this year, this alone has appeared to be a competitive factor. Other issues are that a number of countries in the region are now in election mode (including the new Auckland Super City, and Australia, plus several Pacific Island countries), so this is a distraction, whilst other Pacific Island related events are happening in Australia shortly. 'By deferring the Conference and Expo until March next year, this will not only be happening immediately following the annual Auckland Pasifika Festival at Western Springs on March 12 and 13 (and so become a major trade related addition to Pasifika), but it will give the expo organising committee more time to consult with Pacific Island governments and private operators, and NZ Businesses, what specifically will provide them with maximum outcomes from such an event. Furthermore, 2011 is Rugby World Cup year in New Zealand, and although that event is later in the year, there will be a discernable build-up happening throughout the 2011 which we can hitch onto.' |

 | It was a night of mystery, fine dining and spectacular entertainment, when a small selection of PCOs, event organisers and local business advocates were hosted at Mystery Creek Events Centre. The aim, to showcase the venue's capability and flexibility, was well met with fine dining, swing singing, body art and a dramatic finale of coordinated pyrotechnics and rock music medley. The 37 guests included PCOs and event organisers from Waikato, Auckland and Australia, along with local tourism and business leaders.
