On a Cloud

Three specific events spaces are available for hire now at The Cloud on Queen’s Wharf and the venue is generating plenty of interest from the sector, according to Connie Clarkson, place maker for Waterfront Auckland. The Cloud has an expo floor and media room downstairs, plus a ‘mezzanine’ stye VIP room. All feature plenty of natural light and the emphasis is on getting events into them now that the Rugby World Cup has come and gone.

‘Our message to the events sector is that they should take advantage of The Cloud as long as it is here,’ says Clarkson. 'It has an international profile and we are getting enquiries every day.’ As its name suggests, the Expo Floor is ideal for exhibitions and can be subdivided into three if organisers wish to incorporate dinners, breakout areas, meetings etc. Clarkson says because of the nature of the venue, there are some noise restrictions and other considerations to take into account. There is no public parking on the wharf, but The Cloud is close to downtown parking areas and public transport hubs.

Also available for hire on Queen’s Wharf, though only until April 1, is Shed 10. This will be ‘offline’ for a redevelopment from April and will be converted into a major cruise terminal. From 2013 it will be available for events subject to availability (when not being used for cruise vessels).
